Penang’s Digital Economy & Brazil: Driving Innovation

PENANG, 25 February 2025 – Digital Penang welcomed a delegation from the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, alongside representatives from Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), for a meaningful exchange on fostering digital innovation and economic development. During the visit, we highlighted our mission and key initiatives under the Digital Economy Master Plan (DEMP) 2025-2027, emphasizing our commitment to expanding Penang’s digital economy and strengthening global partnerships.

Discussions traced Penang’s evolution from a robust manufacturing hub—bolstered by significant foreign direct investment (FDI)—to its current role as a regional leader in semiconductor industry growth. The delegation from Rio Grande do Sul shared insights into renewable energy and agriculture innovations within their state, expressing a strong interest in developing their own semiconductor ecosystem.

This gathering paved the way for potential collaborations between Digital Penang and Brazilian agencies, focusing on technology transfer, talent development, and cultivating dynamic digital ecosystems. By forging closer ties with international partners, Penang aims to remain at the forefront of digital transformation, further elevating Penang’s digital economy.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Rafael Prikladnicki (President, Invest RS), Mr. Guilherme Camboim (Director, Dept. of Knowledge for The State Department for Innovation, Science and Technology), and MDEC representatives Azizul Abdul Latif and Michael Tan Kim Seng for their invaluable insights and dedication to international collaboration. Digital Penang looks forward to deepening these relationships, driving impactful innovation, and shaping a brighter digital future together.
