PENANG, 04 May 2026 – Digital Penang hosted a cybersecurity awareness session for SMEs at its office in Bangunan Wisma Yeap Chor Ee, in collaboration with Cybersure.
The session was designed to strengthen awareness among small and medium enterprises (SMEs) on today’s rapidly evolving cyber threat landscape. It brought attention to increasingly common risks such as ransomware, phishing attacks, and data breaches—threats that can significantly disrupt business operations if not properly managed.
Participants were guided through key exposure gaps often found in SME environments, as well as the real operational and financial impact of cyber incidents. The discussion emphasised that cybersecurity is no longer just an IT concern, but a critical business continuity priority.
In addition to raising awareness, the session provided practical insights on how SMEs can enhance their resilience. This included strengthening internal safeguards, improving incident response readiness, and developing more structured recovery planning to minimise downtime in the event of an attack.
The session also encouraged active participation from the SME community, with strong engagement throughout the discussion. Attendees shared experiences and challenges, contributing to a more grounded understanding of how cyber threats manifest in real business settings.
Overall, the initiative reflects Digital Penang’s continued commitment to supporting SME digital readiness. By equipping businesses with knowledge and practical strategies, such sessions aim to build a more resilient and security-conscious business ecosystem in Penang.
