Top 3 Winners of Malaysia Day 2022 NFT Art Competition Amazes Visitors at TechFest 2022 Penang

16 September 2022, George Town – In conjunction with Malaysia Day, awarded the Top 3 finalists of its ‘Malaysia Day 2022 NFT Art Competition’ at TechFest 2022 Penang, in Setia Spice Arena today. At the prize giving ceremony was YB Zairil Khir Johari, the Penang State EXCO for Infrastructure and Transport, and Vice Chairman of Digital Penang presented the prizes to the Top 3 finalists for their best works and also visited all the submissions at Digital Penang’s NFT Art Exhibition booth. On behalf of the Penang state government in its effort to drive awareness of technology and convergence of creative and digital, Digital Penang awarded a total of RM10,000 to the winners for the competition themed Wonders of Malaysia.

Taking home the grand prize of RM5,000 was Mohamad Izzuddin Asyraf Bin Ismail who hails from Selangor for his masterpiece Malaysiaku Unik. His masterpiece minted on the NFT marketplace Pentas.io in a video featured various ‘Malaysian’ scenes from food, sports, to cultural festivities that evolved from black and white to colour. Coupled with a poem written in Bahasa Malaysia, his submission uniquely represented the competition’s theme of Wonders of Malaysia. Link to Izzudin’s winning entry.

At second place was Hanafi Bin Shafie from Perlis with his digital asset in the form of a non-fungible token, also minted on Pentas, for his colourful artwork Merdeka Jiwa. His colourful doodle radical art depicted the father of independence and the Malaysian flag. Hanafi, a fulltime freelance visual artist, was awarded RM3,000 for his winning entry. Multidisciplinary artist Mohammad Tajrin Faruqi Bin Mohd Taqiyuddin from Selangor bagged RM2,000 for his NFT submission Alif, Mutu dan Lee which won third place of the competition. As a paint artist, Mohammad Tajrin Faruqi has exhibited his art pieces in Malaysia, USA, United Kingdom and Indonesia. His artwork Alif, Mutu dan Lee drawn with acrylic depicts three school children aims to exhibit a harmonious yet surreal manner is drawn in black and white to illustrate a drawing on a school blackboard. All submissions from Digital Penang’s Malaysia Day NFT Art Competition are on display throughout the duration of TechFest 2022 Penang which runs till 18 September 2022 at Setia Spice Arena. Digital Penang’s booth also includes more than 200 NFT art pieces submitted by Malaysians. The NFT Art Exhibition by Digital Penang at TechFest 2022 is open to public.
