George Town, 25 October 2025 – Forum on “Innovating Future Learning” at Festival of Ideas, Universiti Sains Malaysia

Digital Penang’s Chief Executive Officer, Ts. Ng Kwang Ming, participated as a panelist in Forum 5: Innovating Future Learning during the Festival of Ideas 2025 organised by Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). He emphasised that achieving digital equitable access in education requires robust infrastructure development, including wider 5G connectivity, affordable digital devices, and strengthened digital literacy across all communities.

He highlighted the importance of embedding entrepreneurship education as a core component in schools to nurture resilience and adaptability through learning from failure. He also reaffirmed Digital Penang’s commitment to developing 500 innovators by 2030 in the Hardtech and Deeptech sectors, while underscoring the need to equip educators with the skills to effectively guide the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Addressing inclusivity and the evolving age of AI, he stressed the importance of cultivating soft skills, ethics, and critical thinking among future learners. He reminded that innovation must be accessible to learners of all abilities and anchored in integrity and responsibility as society navigates an increasingly digital world.

Digital Penang was honoured to welcome His Excellency Mr. Machida Shinya, Consul-General of Japan in Penang, for a dialogue session with Ts. Ng Kwang Ming, CEO of Digital Penang, and the senior management team.

The discussion covered key areas under the Digital Transformation and Economy agenda, including the digitalisation of SMEs, development of the digital community, growth of the startup ecosystem, funding opportunities, and talent development with a focus on STEM.

His Excellency expressed his appreciation to Digital Penang for sharing insights into Penang’s digital initiatives and for contributing to the Japanese government’s understanding of how these efforts are helping drive Penang’s transformation into a digitally enabled economy.
